Overview of Units 5-8 (Independent Spanish Speaker): Students learn to interact on clear standard situations encountered at work and leisure. They learn how to deal with most conditions likely to arise while travelling in an area where Spanish is spoken. They prepare to have regular interactions with native speakers with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that produces a strain-free conversation. They speak using straightforward sentences in present, present progressive, conditional, past, and perfect tenses.
In Unit 8, students explore more irregular verbs in the simple-past tense. They are introduced to the perfect tense (pretérito
s perfecto) and learn about regular and irregular participles. They study the use of accents in the Spanish language. They use some determinantes (such as cada día
and todas partes) and possessive adjectives (adjetivos posesivos de forma larga.) They review neutral-demonstrative pronouns. They practice how to ask for and give opinions and use the preposition/adverb hasta. They learn to use more reflexive verbs and their use as affective verbs. They explore the use of participles as adjectives. They are introduced to the imperfect preterit. They read and write short paragraphs and conversations that involve a wide vocabulary.
